Registration of Marriage
Under (Marriage and Divorce Act 1976 of Malaysia)
Marriage can be registered at the Malaysian Mission if at
least one of the couple is a Malaysian citizen.
Non-Muslim citizens who
contract marriage outside Malaysia MUST register the marriage with this office
within the period of six (6) months from the date of marriage. This is a legal
requirement and for the marriage to be legally recognised in Malaysia.
In
order to register, both husband ad wife must come to this office together with
the original and 2 sets of photocopies of the following :-
- Passport of
the couple (page no. 1, 2 and 3)
- Malaysian Identification Card (photocopy
both side)
- British Marriage Certificate (and Divorce Certificate, where
applicable)
- Two (2) passport size photographs (studio taken) each
- A self-address envelope (A4 size) with £1.50 stamps for the registered postage
- Registration fee of £4.00 for registration made within
(6) months from the date of marriage
- Penalty charge will be imposed for
late registration
Registration will be processed by the Mission and
two (2) copies of the Malaysian Marriage Certificate (original and a photostat copy) will be issued to
the couple.
